My 19 year old nephew is looking for au pair work from September 2025

Dear all,
My nephew is looking to be an au pair in the UK or Germany from September 2025 but rather frustratingly is getting no responses from any families he writes to (and he's putting a lot of care into his messages) on Au pair World.

Can any recommend another website or organisation?

Many thanks,
Nicola

I feel like he's likely not getting responses because he's male, which is probably unfair but think if I was looking for an au pair I'd want a female.

That’s such a shame! We used Au Pair World when we hired. Or could he try Childcare.co.uk?

Darkambergingerlily · 28/04/2025 16:25

Sadly I think it will be harder because he’s not a woman

Does he have an EU passport ? UK based aupairs are not typically employed in UK.

I think the first comment has probably hit the nail on the head, rightly or wrongly I’m not sure there are many families who would be happy to employ a young man to care for their children and move into their home, unless they already knew him well through friends or family connection. I’ll be honest, as pp was, and say I would flatly refuse to consider a young man also.

Agree with everyone else. It's because he's male. I'm afraid he might have to consider other options.

Does he have EU passport for Germany? Brexit is real.

We had a male aupair then aupair from Europe was an option. It was a great experience - keep looking for a family.

What about doing a camp America type of thing first?

Edited

They have au pair visas in Germany.

I've found him on au pair world.

He needs to change his first picture to one that doesn't show his tongue and shows him interacting with a young person.
He needs also put more about his experience with children in the "Dear Host Family" section as that's the first thing people read.
I'd also recommend changing the time he's available for to 6-12 months as it looks too keen.
