30 free hours 100k threshold

Although I've read the gov website several times, I just want to double double double check (before we get screwed over like we have done for the child benefit when we've submitted a text return this year.

The 100k threshold when you are no longer eligible for the 30 free hours is if ONE PERSON earns over 100k yes? Not a joint income??

One person

Yes, it's one person earning £100,000 or over, not joint. In this situation you're entitled to 15 hrs starting the term after your child is 3 only.

intrepidgiraffe · 18/02/2025 21:17

Yes one person.

If you're only slightly over you can pay into a pension to bring you under 100k and then you'll be eligible.

Thank you.
I just got a tad confused because it talks about joint income minimums and then singular maximum income.

So they assess jointly for minimum and then single for maximum!

But thanks for your replies!

No, you both (if you have a partner) have to earn over a certain amount in order to qualify. And you both have to earn under a certain amount in order to still qualify.

As long as you don't live in wales, where you would get 0 free hours

You also lose access to tax free childcare once you earn over 100k.
