How to Balance a Part-Time Job with Parenting Young Children?

I'm considering taking on a part-time job to help with our family's finances, but I'm worried about balancing work with taking care of my young children. For those who've been in a similar situation, how did you manage your time and responsibilities? What tips and advice do you have for juggling work and parenting, especially with little ones at home? Any insights on finding flexible jobs or arranging childcare would also be greatly appreciated!

My biggest advice would be to make sure that you don’t overextend yourself. I started accepting loads of extra hours and we actually couldn’t find childcare to cover some of the hours and the stress, tension and fights weren’t worth it

From a report in 2021 "In April to June 2021, three in four mothers (75.6%) were in work in the UK, reaching its highest level in the equivalent quarter over the last 20 years from 66.5% in 2002. In the same period, 92.1% of fathers were employed. This has also increased from 89.6% in 2002 but has plateaued in recent years." So the majority of parents are in work, whether part or full time.

"Insights on finding flexible jobs" it really varies so much - what did you do before you had children? Do you have qualifications and experience? Do you want a career change? By flexible do you mean WFH, or around school hours, or working for yourself in the odd hour here and there?

Do you have a partner and what do they do? Are you solely responsible for sorting any childcare (I hope not). Do you have any local family help. How old and how many are the children? Do you live in a village in the middle of nowhere or somewhere where there is paid childcare available?
