Issue with Nursery

Morning fellow Mums!

DS who is 2 came home from nursery last night with an incredibly sore bum, due to quite an extreme case of nappy rash. At pick up we were told he had a “bit” of a sore bum which they thought was due to teething, however we feel the staff were dishonest with how bad the rash really is. Poor boy couldn’t even sit in the bath and was then trembling and screaming in agony whilst trying to cream him for bed 😔 we suspect our son was left in his dirty nappy for too long as the poo he did before bed was a normal stool.

I spoke to another mum who’s child is in the same class as our DS and she said her child had been left in a dirty nappy too, she could smell it as soon as she walked into the door. She changed it there at nursery and said he had clearly been in it a while due to the shape, staining on their bum etc. at this point the shared keyworker was there in the kitchen (she doesn’t work full time so had left before our pick up) and was talking to her about how she was so hungry she had to eat, didn’t realise he had pooed. Which we find suspect due to the smell?

The ratio at this nursery for 2 year olds is 1:5, so I appreciate they’re probably stretched too thin. However their fees went up in April so they could continue to offer “exceptional care” 😣

Our DS has only had a bum like this twice before and that was when he’s been incredibly ill with diarrhoea! So we’re going to complain. We have to advocate for our kids. Does anyone have any advice or anything we should mention in particular? The other mum is going to complain too but we want to make a coherent complaint rather than sound like angry/emotional mums/dads!

Thanks.

You're right to complain. When I want to write an email I'm feeling emotional about, I write it then sleep on it. Then check the following day beside sending it.

I'd ask them what their procedures are for frequency of nappy changes and recording nappy changes.
