Childcare voucher scheme refund

Kiddivouchers - a childcare voucher scheme - run by Wider Plan Ltd eventually disclosed its policy on issuing refunds of childcare vouchers. Until recently the company was silent on how it made its decisions whether to exercise its discretion to issue refunds of vouchers. Our company had to pursue Kiddivoucher's decision to refuse a refund right through to a hearing at the Small Claims Court in Worcester. While we were unsuccessful in the end based on the facts of the case, we at least had the company reveal in a witness statement it's decision making policy. The policy is in relation to pandemic related refund requests, "Refund requests are considered on their individual merits, against established criteria. We make a distinction between, on the one hand, families who have become fundamentally unable to use childcare as a result of the pandemic and, on the other hand, those whose access to childcare was simply delayed, or whose preferences have changed, or whose childcare use was already minimal. We also consider whether the parent has managed their Childcare Voucher account responsibly."
If your employer has not yet requested a refund on your behalf and the vouchers aren't expired, I would recommend that you seek to apply this policy to your situation to recover a refund. The unused funds are otherwise left for Wider Plan Ltd to use as they choose which can't be a good use of hard earned vouchers by employees.
