Free 15 hours childcare for working parents & maternity leave

Hi, we’ll be utilising the new free 15 hours free childcare for working parents in April as our DS starts nursery. We’ve recently found out we are expecting baby no2 and therefore would be taking maternity leave in October. As I’ll be on maternity leave does this mean we’ll no longer be eligible for the free working parents childcare? Will we therefore have to pay the full amount for his time at nursery? I understand I’ll be on maternity leave so can care for DS & baby no2 however I don’t want to mess up routine. Nursery is also difficult to get spaces and I’ll be afraid of loosing his space if I do pull him out for when I return to work. We wont be able to afford whilst on maternity pay for him to continue with nursery without the 15hours free.

Assuming they keep it the same as previous then no you shouldn’t lose your hours. I’m expecting in July and fully expect to be able to use the hours, just like we did before xx

You continue to be eligible for the funded hours whilst on maternity leave.
