Tax free childcare account

Hello - I've recently applied for the tax free account. I've put money in but only £12.00 has cleared. Is that right or should I wait a few more days?

The system does not work from around 3pm on a Friday to 9am on a Monday. So I would wait until at least Monday to see any update.

Thank you. Hopefully it adds more Monday.

How much money did you put in? As they only top up 20% of what you've out in, and you can only have a total top up of £500 ever 3 months

When you say only £12 has cleared did you pay in more? Or you paid in £48 and £12 has been topped up to make it a balance of £60?

If you paid in in one go that should clear in one go and the top up happens automatically at different times depending on when you do it. Sometimes it's almost instaneous, sometimes it takes a few hours.

I paid £53.20 into mine about an hour ago. Will probably show as cleared and topped-up by lunchtime.

Came to post a thread and have seen this also have an issue with tax free childcare.

I have both children registered but was only claiming for 1 child (£150). Their father would pay the other child’s wrap around care.

Now the child care costs of the child I claim for is going to down. I wanted to also claim for child 2 as I will need to pay his wrap around care. Plus I want to accumulate some money for school holiday care.

I am going round in circles to find out how to

  1. start paying in (from my salary) for child 2
  2. reduce the amount I pay in (if necessary) for child 1
anybody help?

@ColdinNovember you have the register the 2nd child on it separately, I have both kids listed on mine and just pick which ones account I'm topping up

Hi, I know this is an old thread and slightly off topic but I’m hoping someone who uses the account will see this.
I’ve only just set mine up as my son has just started private nursery. I have made two deposits, the first one small to test it out and the second the cost of his settling sessions this month.
Both have cleared and been topped up 25%. I’m not complaining but I thought it was only 20% - has this changed recently?

nannynick · 21/12/2023 16:58

That is right @Hopeful2654
If you pay in £80, it gets topped up to £100. £20 is 20% of the £100. If you look at it as percentage of what you paid in... £20 is 25% of £80.

Oh that makes sense! Thank you.
