Either will be absolutely fine, a few days here or there makes no difference at all.

I would probably buy another tub because he may not like cows milk, in which case one tactic is to mix milk into the formula, gradually changing up the ratio till it's all cows milk and no formula.

So day 1 6oz formula 1 oz milk
Day 2 5oz formula, 2 oz milk
Day 3 4oz formula, 3 oz milk and so on.

Day 1 - make up an 8oz bottle, add 1 oz milk
Day 2 - make up a 7oz bottle, add 2oz milk
Day 3 - make up a 6oz bottle, add 3 oz milk
Day 4 - make up a 5oz bottle, add 4 oz milk
Day 5 - make up a 4oz bottle, add 5 oz milk
Day 6 - make up a 3oz bottle, add 6 oz milk
Day 7 - make up a 2oz bottle, add 7 oz milk
Day 7 - make up a 1 oz bottle, add 8 oz milk

He might however really like the new milk, so try him with a small bit in a bottle or even better in a cup and see how it goes. If he doesn't like it then you can try mixing it with the formula as above.

You need to do it gradually anyway. So yes the PP suggestion works perfectly.
