I’m leaving my 20 month for the first time with a babysitter. She says she charges £10 an hour, we will be away for 4 hours. Do I just give £40, or do i tip / give extra? What’s the done thing? And do I leave snacks, or money for a takeaway or anything?

Just get a few nice snacks in.

Show her where biscuis, tea, coffee etc are kept too.

I never got tipped. Snacks available were always appreciated.

Just tea, coffee and a few snacks will do. No tip required but just don't me late back. If you're even 10 mins late, offer her £45 atleast.

Pay £40, in whatever method of payment has been agreed (cash, bank transfer). If you get delayed, let them know and keep them updated, and pay extra - round up to next 30 minutes or 1 hour.

Show them where to find tea/coffee/milk. Leave some snacks out - a little plate with selection of wrapped biscuits, or leave out the biscuit tin. Packet of crisps perhaps.

If they are working at a time where they would be eating evening meal at your home, then I would expect that an agreement regarding that was made before the booking. I have had clients provide me with a pre-determined ready-meal (so they knew what I would eat) for example which I reheated in the oven/microwave.

Buy a pack of share bag crisps and Malteasers or biscuits but let her know she can help herself to tea coffee milk and toast if wanted
