Glitch with tax free childcare

ItsTheSmallThings · 27/02/2023 16:31

Transfered money over to tax free childcare today and when I looked at the account it states its took my transaction 5 times, even though bank account states its only been taken once. So balance on tax free site is 5 times what it should be. Called the tax man and he stated its a glitch and I have to wait for this to be sorted and not to pay child care provider. I've called childcare provider as payment is due tomorrow and she states she needs the money by then. What do I do now?? Has any one else experienced this??

If the money can’t be paid by tax free childcare you will need to pay your childcare setting direct from your bank account

slamfightbrightlight · 27/02/2023 16:37

Presumably you’ll need to pay your childcare provider by some other means if you can and then take the money back out of your tax free childcare account once it clears.

According to my childminder it takes several days for money to reach her from the tax free account so may be worth transferring a few days earlier in future if you can to avoid a repeat.

I normally do, but due to a glitch with a prepaid card i haven't been able to this month.

The same has happened to me. And I don't have another spare £500 in the bank to just pay the nursery directly, if only it was that simple.

Did you call them? What did they say to you?

I haven't been able to get through to them. I am just going to pay the nursery from the account and see what happens.

I was thinking of doing the same to be honest. Pay what's owed and then they can take the remainder back.

Nurseries aren't the most understanding in my experience. And if it's not paid on time they will fine me.
It doesn't help that the time between pay day and the beginning of next month is shorter than normal this month so less time to get things sorted.

savethewales · 28/02/2023 13:16

I topped mine up yesterday and paid the nursery; the funds I put in, then the 20% was the only money in and the payment went to the nursery fine.
Logged in this morning and 4 lots of payment showing, 4 lots of top up and they've duplicated the payment to the nursery. I spoke to them and they said to call the nursery and gave me bank account details for it to be refunded.

I feel like their PA, when this isn't my issue but if you pay and it duplicates at least it's an easy fix.

wibblewobbleball · 28/02/2023 13:40

Pay the nursery and then sort the issue with the gateway account later.

ItsTheSmallThings · 28/02/2023 16:49

Luckily I was able to take money from savings to pay childcare direct and then put the funds from the tax free child care back into my account. I dread to think how long it's going to take them to sort it.

It's hard when they have staff to pay as staff are not that understanding of being paid late, not are utilities, rates etc.

nannynick · 02/03/2023 14:09

I got paid fine. Is this affecting just some accounts and not all. Maybe something to do with when money was paid in.
Has it been resolved yet?

ItsTheSmallThings · 02/03/2023 16:20

From what they said to me it was only people that made the transaction on the 27th. Still hasn't been sorted, just hoping they dont withdraw all the money and then I end up chasing them to put back the money i deposited.

Have you paid the nursery yet?

ItsTheSmallThings · 06/03/2023 17:49

I had to pay them direct from savings gs. Good job I have as they have sent me an email today sating they have suspended all transactions into the account as its still not fixed

I’ve had the same email. Not entirely sure how their cock up has become my problem!

Fam23 · 07/03/2023 05:42

I had this problem too and couldn’t pay the nursery until the 3rd. The nursery were really understanding, luckily, but the tax free childcare didn’t care about, or even consider covering any fines that may have incurred!

TinaMummy · 25/03/2023 16:39

Just jumping on this, is anyone still having issues making payments? The duplicated funds have been removed but I still can't make any payments and the helpline don't seem to have a clue, just tell me to keep trying!

turnthebiglightoff · 25/03/2023 17:06

@TinaMummy I've just made a payment and it went through fine.

savethewales · 25/03/2023 21:01

My duplicated funds are still showing! Feeling fed up now.

LJZRBB · 12/04/2023 15:24

I am fuming, mine is still cocked up from the end of feb. They have tried to correct it but in doing so they have "over" refunded the top up so I now look overdrawn!!!

I didn't know payments wouldn't go through to my provider (there was no notification for me). So I topped up like normal when I got paid at the end of March. I made sure I had enough cleared funds. But the money didn't go to her and it has just disappeared. We had to find another £700 to pay my minder direct from my bank account (so weve paid almost £1500 for "childcare" this month). I am just so angry, sick of the generic bollocks you get when you call the help line.

has any one actually managed to get theirs resolved?

ItsTheSmallThings · 12/04/2023 17:19

I think mine was resolved, my payment went through last month and haven't tried to top up since, what have they said when you have called them?

OP posts:
LJZRBB · 12/04/2023 19:13

That it will be fixed by x date. And it never is.

I hope this is resolved my the end of the month because I need that top up!

glad you got yours sorted.

savethewales · 12/04/2023 22:08

My duplicated payments are still showing. No updates from them since 27th February when I called to let them know it had happened. Utterly terrible really.
