Hi there,
Looking for thoughts on Maggie & rose club in London if anyone is a member? Considering signing up for the large range of classes they offer. Any helpful opinions welcome!
Thanks

I think the classes at M&R are some of the worst classes I've ever been to tbh and I'm a nanny so have been to every baby class going for the last 15 years! They're ok for older children 2.5/3 plus, but absolutely rubbish for babies.

I do like having access to the softplay and it is great on a rainy day/after school, but if it's the classes you're after I really wouldn't bother.

A bit of a rip off in my opinion.

Age of your child and location would be helpful.

M&R Kensington is alright, nice space and clean. But the design is ridiculous, the main play area is downstairs. You have to leave your buggy upstairs and then walk down a winding staircase holding a baby. Also tricky as you have to carry everything you need with you as well and quite often I'd forget something in the buggy which is really annoying.

The downstairs toilets are also TINY, you have to trek upstairs to use the bathroom for baby change.

Cafe is basic, never had hot food (which I think is just pizza?) and quite often couldn't find a staff member to serve.

Didn't do any of the classes.

It worked for us (nanny) as it was walking distance, but the family has since taken up membership at a different club.

Ahh really interesting, thank you! We’d be nearest the one in Kensington & my son has just turned 2. Do you have any recommendations for other family clubs, or would you suggest just attending local classes?
Thanks in advance!

Do you want to attend just for the classes?

The child I look after now goes to this place, but I've never done the classes, however I did look in on a messy play one that looked nice.

The play space is much nicer than M&R and there are plenty of staff around

I Prefer purple dragon, but I’m nanny no parent so I’ve no idea the difference in price. The swimming is very good there.

Thank you so much everyone, great to have such knowledgeable insight!
We're looking primarily at classes. I'm sure you will know as nannies - what are the best classes in the area!? There seem to be so many and I can't decide which to go with. My DS loves anything active and musical.

Purple Dragon is brilliant, but pricey. They have art, cooking, music, and swimming classes. Lovely warm pool. And great play areas.

Monkey Music is an old favourite, and Gymboree.

Just attending classes is probably better value for money tbh. I think it depends on how much you'd use the drop in play areas.

In terms of classes, the franchise music ones (monkey music, gymboree, heartbeeps etc) are all much of a muchness. They almost all offer a free trial class so I'd try all of them and pick whichever one you like best/is at the most convenient time and location.

Little Gym is really good for an active class. I think they also offer a free/reduced price trial. They often have really good classes at YMCA's if there is one near you (dance/gym classes normally).

I've only experience of the Islington Maggie & Rose as a guest member (so didn't do any classes). A great space, but not worth the money IMO as food isn't great, environment was pretty messy and the space felt a bit cramped when busy.

It's also worth exploring your local stay and play groups - there are more out there than you think (although they do vary in quality). Here's a list for Kensington if it helps - https://www.theplaymap.co.uk/playgroups/stay-and-play-in-kensington-chelsea
