Old nursery fees

My DS in 10 years old. 6 years ago he went to our local preschool which me and my ex partner paid for. I have gone to enrol my youngest child today who is 3 and the manager has said I have an outstanding balance of £200 from my previous child? I was unaware of these fees and cannot afford to pay this outright. Has anybody been in this situation before?

Surely they wouldn't wait 10 years to tell you?!

The limitation period for recovering old debts is usually 6 years in the Uk.

Debt is only enforceable via a court for 6 years in the UK however, it doesn’t mean they have to allow you to be a customer again.

True, but likewise they can turn around and refuse to take the other kid if it’s not paid.

Not 10 years they've waited 6 years to tell me I have an outstanding balance.

This is exactly what I thought. I'm happy to pay the debt but just unsure why I was never told it existed.

I'm happy to pay the debt as I love the school just confused why it was never addressed that the debt existed until I went in to enquire about sending my daughter there.
