How much is a full day session for a 1 year old at nursery compared to cost of private childminder?

im trying to plan childcare for eventual return to work but need to know how much I will be spending a month.

£42.50 for my childminder for a full day

Juicylychee · 20/12/2022 21:55

Depends where you live.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 20/12/2022 21:55

It's probably going to massively vary depending on where in the country you are?

Our nursery is £80 a day with a 10% discount for full time. (SW London)

Don't forget about tax free childcare, where you pay in 80% and the govt puts in 20% up to a certain limit per year. So our fees are £1020 a month and it costs us just over £800 a month.

elapdj · 20/12/2022 21:55

This will vary massively depending on where you are located.

Depends where you live. I'm in NI and it's between 200 and 240 a week for full time

Chantelle302412 · 20/12/2022 21:59

I’m paying a childminder £45 a day 2 days a week £90 a week but I get 85% back on universal credit.

pbdr · 20/12/2022 22:02

I had a place reserved at a nursery for my 1 year old for 2 days/week - it was around £450/month, so with tax-free childcare would have cost me around £360 (as it happens I ended up organising a nanny instead so didn't use the place).

piglet81 · 20/12/2022 22:02

Depends. London can be £100/day for babies, I’m afraid!

bigshoutingday · 20/12/2022 22:20

Defo depends, £100 a day seems crazy! I pay £46 a day for nursery 8-6.

Poppymil · 20/12/2022 22:38

I'm South Yorkshire and pay £55 a day for DD. That's 8-6 and includes 3 meals and 2 snacks x

Thehop · 20/12/2022 23:15

West Yorkshire childminder: 7:30-6 all meals, nappies and wipes included £45 a day for a baby

123woop · 20/12/2022 23:50

My friend was paying £80 a day for nursery for her 1yo (it was a nightmare as they sent him home for "illness" most days when there was nothing wrong with him!) but now pays £35 for a childminder who is absolutely brilliant. She's ofsted registered too so qualifies for the free 30 hours etc - worth looking into for the future

jannier · 21/12/2022 20:51

All childminders must be either Ofsted Registered or registered through an Ofsted approved childminder Agency....there is no such thing as a private childminder....but some illegal workers advertise as such.
In most areas childminders are cheaper than nurseries and you can use tax free, universal credits, and 2/3 year old funding.

Ctina · 21/12/2022 21:14

Thank you everyone

i have found one nursery that’s £56 full day so hopefully I can start budgeting 👍

£64 a day here, plus an extra £12 if collecting after 5pm. South East.

hollyjolls · 21/12/2022 21:32

4.75 per hour for our childminder. DS goes 7:30 -5:30 so 47.50 per day. Nurseries we looked at were very similar price. This is for the north east.

TroubleOverBridgedWater · 21/12/2022 21:35

£92 a day...

Butterfly44 · 21/12/2022 21:35

Really varies depending on location!! My Nursey costs halved when I moved from one area to another so it's really variable!
