Mil and money

Hi, looking some advice. My MIL has taken DD out for the day to see Santa at a garden centre. I offered her money to let my DD buy something if she wanted and to cover food expenses. She seemed taken back and said ‘do not insult me’ and handed the money back … I am left feeling as if I have done something horribly wrong? I thought nothing of offering the money and didn’t mean to offended. Am I in the wrong? Tia

You're not in the wrong at all! It's good you offered. Everyone's different. My parents would have happily accepted the money. My MIL would be offended. You never know how people will react so I aways offer.

You're not in the wrong and neither is she. She wants to treat her granddaughter and you covered bases. Non issue.
