Ashuwini · 11/10/2022 17:42

Hello, i am a fulltime carer for my autistic daughter and have been summoned for jury service.I attached my exemption form stating so along with GP certificate. They are asking for more proof from the carer agency me being registered with them. My husband is full time working medical doctor, so he cant take leave for long. This is my first time and i am bit stressed about it. What should i do?
Thanks

Is there a contact email ,or telephone on the response. I found them much more helpful if you could speak to an individual rather than just fill in the form.

Ooh interesting! Same situation here with receiving summons and that I can't do it as I am carer to my autistic daughter. Have not heard back yet but if they ask for proof I don't have anything, apart from perhaps her DLA award letter and diagnosis letter. Didn't know they were so harsh about it, everything I've read on here says they're really understanding.

There has been an error on your part. There will be a contact. Is your child in school?

Doingprettywellthanks · 11/10/2022 17:49

Error on THEIr part

They are, don’t worry

I will again call my carers association to give me letters proving that i am an unpaid fulltime carer .I wonder why they won't consider a GP letter stating the same fact, valuable?

What hours? Because may mean you are available

Doingprettywellthanks · 11/10/2022 20:59

Do you receive carers allowance? And your daughter doesn’t receive anything?

But the whole point of remaining unemployed is so that you are available at the drop of a hat to go into school if you need to.

But the op isn’t “unemployed”. She should be receiving carers allowance and her daughter DLA

DH got called up about a year ago but got excused due to having 2 autoimmune diseases. They were fine about it.

This.

I'd gone through a traumatic court experience 7 years ago (victim not jury) after getting nowhere with postal service I rang; the lady was compassionate and immediately dismissed me

Ashuwini · 12/10/2022 08:22

The hours are 9 to 3 , so I'll have to look for either a childminders or a club because the courts will be till 5 atleast. And the courts don't fully give the money i will spend. Also the court is quiet a distance from my home so I'll have to make adjustments for DD to be dropped off to school. And what if she has a meltdown!

As we are not citizens of UK yet we are not getting any allowance.

If you are not citizens of the UK, you should not be called for jury service

Ashuwini · 12/10/2022 13:00

So i got in touch with the jury service enquiry number. Luckily it got connected. I explained my circumstances and told that i have a GP letter attached. They adviced me to hire a childcare service. I told what if my kid becomes upset or has a meltdown in the new setting. They hung up saying we need more proof. But after a while i got a email saying after thorough review i am exempt this time. Honestly this was not a good experience at all. There is no mention of carers in the exemption criteria , which is a surprise.

I think because we have ILR and voting rights we are considered as residents. But not officially citizens of UK.

Very odd

gogohmm · 12/10/2022 13:17

Having a disabled child in itself doesn't exempt you - you need to source a quote for the childcare you need, can their dad drop them at school? If so find out how much specialist care would be. They are likely to then exempt you.

I was exempted for lack of childcare once but told if I was asked again I would have to source it, they have never asked (15 years)

Ashuwini · 12/10/2022 13:20

I have learnt a lot from this incident. Am sure I'll have to be more prepared if it happens again.

My husband was expected to cover our child care when I did JS. He's a doctor as well, it was made very clear that the NHS had to give him the time off when our other child care options were unavailable.

Ashuwini · 12/10/2022 14:32

Was the leave cut from his annual leave or was it special leave?

OP posts:
lunar1 · 12/10/2022 17:18

It was his annual leave I think as it wasn't actually him doing JS.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2022 20:18

I was called up a while back. I said no as I work snd have dd daytime tho at school

i said I couldn’t get to Court in time wss think 9/4 as had no one to take dd fir me

plus what they paid me wouldn’t cover my loss of earnings

thry said no problem and was deferred

if I was retired snd no childcare issues I would like to do jury

but their pay is a potencies so anyone who is working would be at a loss
