Hi just wondered If anyone had been in this situation I currently claim tax credits and working tax credits, my daughter is about to turn 3 I just looked into claiming 30 free hours however when applying it says my tax credits will be reduced? Is this correct?

I was in the situation years ago and yes the childcare element was reduced because I didn’t need as much due to the 30 hrs reducing my childcare bill. It makes sense.

So I don't currently claim childcare as my parents help out , so should mean my tax credits stay the same? Sorry I know I sound dumb just hard to get your head around it all!

If you don’t get the childcare element and just the working tax element then it should stay roughly the same I expect. I’m sure for me it was just a reduction in childcare element.

I your case it won't change, it will be a generic warning to cover people who are claiming the childcare component.
