If you’ve hired a nanny recently where did you find them

Just that.

I’ve found great nannies three times over nine years on Gumtree but now we’re looking for someone new and not had much response to our advert there (big change from 50 applications in the first week a few years ago)

so if you’ve found someone good recently (especially part time / after school Hours which is what we’re looking for now) please tell me where / how you found them.

we’re London zone 2 for local suggestions

Childcare.co.U.K.

Wish I knew! I am also looking for an after school nanny and not had much luck yet. It’s been ages since I’ve had to look as my previous nanny was word of mouth and was with us for 6 years. Ive tried koru kids and have one positive response so will interview her next week. Nothing from childcare.co.uk. Facebook local area nanny group is also not getting much response either. I am slightly panicking I must admit!

Facebook mums group. We are SE London.

If the usual sites of nanny job - childcare.co and Facebook local town groups don’t help

if you use childcare buy a month or two membership so you can message people

if still nothing

then bite the bullet and pay for an agency

I will be honest 99% of my nanny jobs were agencies - one gumtree

my maternity work is word of mouth or agencies

I have had think 3 maternity jobs via childcare site in 12yrs I am a gold member so can message anyone and they can message me free

but I often find when I state my hourly rate, they gulp and say looking for more like £6/8hr cheaper

so many nannies and maternity nurses cba with childcare sites as many ads are very low pay and often illegal pay as under nmw

and the site does nothing

Be very careful using an agency for an after school position. I friend of mine finally found an afterschiool nanny a few weeks ago - she wanted a September start, but nanny wanted immediate. Anyway, she worked for a month and has just given notice as she’s found a job with better hours.

She’s spent a fortune in agency fees and they are only (very) partially refundable.

Any reputable agency will refund or find a replacement free if nanny left after 4w

Two nanny agencies refused to take me on as they can’t source part time nannies so it’s not a guarantee.

I’ve had some success (as in two people who’ve responded to messages in actual English not text speak and who have agreed to meet next week). Fingers crossed one of the work out! That was via Nextdoor

khaa2091 · 26/08/2022 19:26

I’ve just found a FT nanny (due to start next month) via childcare.co.Uk.
After heavy pushing I spoke to a local and national agency - they were useless and couldn’t cope with my slightly (not wildly way out) unusual requirements at all.
I interviewed 5 and would have been happy with any of them.

mumsthewordhertfordshire · 30/08/2022 16:08

I run a nanny agency and are well used to individual requirements. There just aren't the nannies around at the moment but we'll work to try and find a nanny for any role. We are often successful and if we aren't there is no fee to pay. If we are successful our charge is competitive, in my opinion... We work hard to make sure nannies don't leave their jobs early (and it is rare) but do offer a sliding scale of refund but will aim to have a replacement.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 31/08/2022 11:03

Koru has been the only one I have reliably found after school care. They have been very mixed though in how good they are.
I have recently been trying to find a nanny housekeeper (more like housekeeper) as my children are tweens and have had no luck at all
On childcare.co.uk.

Must have messaged 100s of people but to no avail.
Have now opted to stay with our current Koru nanny and see if I can opt for more cleaning hours but it's not perfect

AquaticSewingMachine · 01/09/2022 11:26

I found the one I eventually hired on Facebook. I posted my requirements, rate of pay and openness to NWOC and got several responses, although some obviously got weeded out first stage.

I did get a few interested parties through childcare.co.uk. Koru Kids was totally useless.

Getting an after-school nanny is very different to finding a FT one IMO. You have to pay a good rate, and your choices are basically students where you'll probably have high turnover or NWOC.

Catsstillrock · 01/09/2022 16:57

Interesting mix of experiences.

ive found great people via gumtree before - turns out my judgement is good. I’d pay an agency if they found us someone that’s a great fit.

now the ‘back to school’ phase is on I’m getting more responses so will see what the candidates are like and may consider an agency to widen the pool.

were currently offering £11-£14 net depending on experience, may up that to find good people.

I’d be ok with a nanny with their own child as long as the fit is right and everyone gets along.

@Catsstillrock - did you have any luck? Our current nanny has just handed in her notice

FreeButtonBee · 05/09/2022 21:29

I have one good candidate but she is choosing between us and another job (other job is for 35 hours per week). Have defo had to do a bit of a smooze job and play up all the perks (although I am a nice employer!)

chilcare.co.uk has worked best so far and there are more student types popping up. Just need to lurch through the next few weeks til we find someone. Koru kids fairly useless. Facebook awful and haven’t bothered with gumtree as the first look was awful!

I veer between despair and ‘it’ll be okay!’ Vibes. Just want someone to be nice to my babies and feed them healthy and do the bare min around the house. 😬

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/09/2022 12:00

Did you have a name change fail OP?

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/09/2022 12:02

Interesting - have had a few good options through gumtree but nothing from Childcare at all despite trying hundreds.
I have upped the hours with optional
Hours doing housekeeping and have a few hopefuls but it is slow going

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/09/2022 12:03

Our current one is Koru and she has been challenging. I have had one good one from
Koru but three not so good
