I am so grateful to my mum for taking care of my 21 month old DS once a week while I am at work as I could not possibly stretch to another day of nursery on my wage. She is just so negative and it's really bringing me down.

She will tell me she is happy to look after DS but will just complain about his behaviour and how hard it has been. Today im starting work later so I said I'll bring him later and stay for a cuppa before work which she was really happy about.

The whole time I was there, she was a bit mean to my DS and tried to engage in political debates with me, getting annoyed when I explained I didn't want to.

I absolutely crave a good relationship with my otherwise thoughtful and generous mum but this attitude can make it really hard.

*Just as background - nursery for 3 days a week where they tell me he is no problem and at my dad's one day a week who tells me he's great all day.

Any advice?

Either you find another solution (could your DDad do another day? Could you swop to a cheaper nursery or use a CM instead?)

Or you accept that conversing with her is essentially part of the price of having an arrangement which doesn't cost you cash
