When do you start looking for an au pair for August?

Our wonderful first au pair is planning to leave in August. We recruited her last May and I was planning to do the same this year.

However, a colleague of my husband is already recruiting for her next au pair (also to arrive in August).
So - should I start now or is that too early? When do you start looking?

From April / May usually but I guess there's no reason why you can't start now.

Thanks. I just have a fear that if I recruit too early then she will disappear later on in the summer...

there is a chance of that, but it goes both ways I guess. I would wait a bit just so you have more choice.
