I work tuesdays and weekends 7.30-3.30, it takes me half an hour to travel from nursery to work. LO goes to nursery tuesday 7am-1pm then my Nan picks LO up at 1pm and has him untill 4pm for me. I completley forgot that my nan is on holiday this week and didnt book him in extra at nursery, only untill 1pm as ushal. I rang nursery and they can have him untill 2pm, i have no other friends or family that could collect him for me so i need to leave work by 1.30, 2 hours early to collect him.

Do i be honest with work? They are going to be pissed at me as its a busy half term week (hospitality) or do i make up that my nan is unwell and unable to have him or nursery called saying i need to come get him or he or me has an appointment that is urgent?

So it’s one day you need cover. The Tue.

is the dad in the picture ?

seems Weird the nursery can do an extra hour but not till 4

surely there is an afternoon session

in some ways it is better to let work know now so that they can find cover for you

rather then tomorrow suddenly say I need to go

I think be totally honest and up front. I think you can smell lies like 'I have to go now!' a mile off because you'll feel bad about it. Just tell them exactly what's happened and ensure them it won't be happening again. Offer to make up the shift and give them time to cover this shift asap.

Agree with this. You're short by 1.5 hours. Not a big deal to anyone who is reasonable.

I think you need to be honest too. It was a genuine error, not great for your boss but hopefully something they're prepared to understand.

Not weird at all. They may have a staff member who finishes at 2pm so wouldn't be in ratio.
