Summer holiday childcare - what is fair to pay?

Potentially a friend's 19 year old daughter will look after my school age children for a short period whilst I work this summer. My children are aged 12, 8 and 5. The 12 year old doesn't really need someone but the younger two do.

She would be in my house and I may or may not WFH (probably easier not to in many ways). I would provide all meals and probably spending a bit of ice cream money. I would encourage her to take them to the local park/ cafe but otherwise play at home or in the garden.

She doesn't have any childcare qualifications but I have known this girl for many years and she is very sensible. She is off to university in September and wants to save up a bit.

What is a fair days pay though? If I put the younger two in day camp it would cost between £40-£60 (total) depending on the camp. But then I have the convenience of not having to take them and pick them up. Is £50 a day too little? I honestly don't know.

How many hours is it? 9-3? 7-7?

If I WFH it can be 9/9.30 - 4 but if I go into the office more like 8-5.

minimum wage for a 19 yo is £6.83 an hour so that’s about probably about right for a 7.5 hour day

A 19 year old could likely find another job paying more like £10 an hour, so if you're paying less than that it would have to be that she enjoys looking after you kids. Maybe she does.

My 18 year old has two part time jobs both paying around £10 an hour - one's in a pub and the other at a leisure park. Many of her feelings earn similar rates waitressing or in shops. I think the supermarkets pay around £10/hour to over 18s too.

I think quite a lot of employees pay the same pay to all over 18s - equal pay for equal work kind of thinking. Over 18s aren't kids and it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that they earn the same as older colleagues if doing the same work. (Though age based pay discrimination is of course legal, as the NMW is lower if under 23) . Students tend to avoid tax if only working in the holidays (though not NI) But other 18 year olds do pay tax - same personal allowance and tax rate as anyone else.
