Do I have to send DS to nursery if we’re leaving?

Hi everyone.

my husband and I moved to a new house on Saturday. It is around a 30 minute drive from our two DS’ nursery. DS1 is 3 and DS2 is 1.
We didn’t actually know for sure that we definitely had the house until the Friday - and nursery was closed so we couldn’t hand our 1 month notice in (as per contract agreement)

it was a bank holiday today so nursery was shut and again we couldn’t call to inform them. They are due back in tomorrow but we are honestly too busy to send them in.

im calling the nursery in the morning to tell them the boys are leaving, but do I still need to send them during the months notice period? Or just pay the fees and leave it at that? (We understand we still need to pay the fees)

To be honest, I was on the fence about withdrawing DS2 entirely anyway, and I don’t really WANT to send them back if I don’t have to. (Various issues such as small problems we’ve uncovered over the nursery)

has anyone got any input? My DH seems to think we still definitely do have to send them despite giving 1 months notice

what would you other mumsnetters do?

thanks.

No, of course you don’t HAVE to send them. You’re giving the required notice as early as possible and paying the fees for that notice period. Whether they go or not is your concern, not theirs.

No you don’t have to send them in. Just pay the month and leave. Good luck with the move.

As long as you pay the notice fee they won’t care. They are a business, so the money is all they will be bothered about.

You don’t need to send them if you’re leaving but for your 3 year old I’d think about if a good by would be good for them

You need to pay fees. Which you know and are happy to

you don’t need to send them

so don’t if not happy

On what basis? Your childrens' attendance at nursery isn't mandated...

What do you mean? Do you think it's illegal not to send them? I don't understand. You can do what you like with your children. Nursery is optional. Compulsory school age is 5 at which point you must ensure they are receiving an education at school or home.

Of course you don’t have to send them, how on earth would they enforce that?? And what do you think the repercussions would be if you didn’t?
