Hi I'm looking to transfer credits from the open university to a brick around an hour in the bus away from me, but I worry about how lectures would work around childcare? Childcare here doesn't actually start until 7:30am and I fear that I'd miss my lectures because of bus times etc, can you choose when to have them based on your responsibilities?

No, you will usually have core subjects that you must complete and they will be scheduled to suit the lecturers.

I’m guessing you’ve already confirmed there’s no crèche at the university? Alternatively might you be able to access other childcare in that area rather than close to your home?

(Btw, there’s a lovely new board here for Mature students!

You may find it good company.)

You can’t choose when to have lectures. There will be a set timetable just like it was at your school, college etc. At my university there were about 3 cohorts for my year, we all had lectures at the same time but seminars and workshops/tutorials were at different times for each cohort.

Speak to your student union about what support is offered for mature students/students with children

Why do you want to transfer? If the university is difficult to travel to, and if childcare is a major worry, it may be best to continue with distance learning
