Swapping from childcare vouchers to tax free childcare

Hi,
Can anyone explain this to me please?

We’ve always had childcare vouchers but now DP has moved jobs he’s no longer eligible and we have another child, so want to swap to tax free childcare. My voucher account is completely closed and empty. His account hasn’t been paid into for 2-3 months but still had a balance that we are using until it’s empty.

When I logon to the gov childcare website I can see the 30 free hours bit (which is NA now as daughter is in school) but no way of starting tax free childcare. I thought as long as we were no longer paying into a voucher scheme and haven’t for a few months, that we’d be able to open the tax free scheme and start saving into it.

Alternatively is it that you have to wait to do the 3 monthly confirmation thing and tell them at that point that you’ve stopped vouchers?

I just can’t see any clear answers anywhere, so thanks in advance to anyone that knows!

Have you tried calling them? I’ve always found they’re quite good at sorting stuff out on the phone if you can get hold of them.
