I've just received a letter as I was going over the speed limit and am going to be charged! I don't mind getting this as it was my fault and I should not have been doing it (it was only a couple of mph over but over all the same!).
What worries me is that I will also get 3 points on my licence and so I can't say I have a clean licence anymore which will not look good with prospective parents.
I feel so foolish
Please tell me I'm not the only one

No, welcome to my world
Only 3 points though. I've got 3 points for the same reason and no ones ever said anything
You'll be ok. I'm sure most people have a couple points here and there. It's sooooo easy to go over the speed limit and there's no leiway. Even 1 mph over. I think most people a pretty understanding

HTH

FWIW, you ARE actually allowed a percentage OVER the speed limit to compensate for calibration of the detector and your car..something like 5%, but its up to that police persons discretion and if you know about it!
