Christmas present etiquette

Oh dear.
I dropped ds1 and ds2 at CM this morning. It's their last day before xmas and they're all having a big xmas dinner. I'd taken a present for the CM but just cards for the other children. As I was leaving another parent arrived with a huge bag of presents.

Have I got it all wrong? Was I supposed to buy presents for the other 4 children?

In previous years ds1 was at a CM with a friend's child so I bought them a present because they were a friend rather than a fellow mindee iyswim. It just didn't cross my mind that I was supposed to buy them presents. I hardly know them and have no idea what they would want.

No way, I've never had parents buy for my other mindees. I've had presents for me, presents for me and ds and presents just for ds and that's it. NO WAY would you be expected top buy for other mindees. Is this really what she did or has childminder got her own children? If she has bought for mindees, she's obviously got more money than sense!!

no i wouldnt expect your to buy presents for all my mindees' they will all have had one to open from cm anyway1..my mindees did buy each other last eyar, but there was only two of them and dd, so not a lot..dont worry about it!

Thanks for these replies.

Good to know that I wasn't being completely dim in not realising this was going to happen. I guess I'll have to wait to see what has been given and then deliver presents tomorrow if necessary.

It's not that I'm stingy but I do think these things can get out of hand. I'd far rather exchange fewer really nice presents with people we know really well than have them get loads of little pressies from everyone they know.

tbh i wouldnt bother taking anything tomrrow if you LO not there..if your eally do want to take something, buy a little craft set or some new colouring bits fr them to make stuff with in new year!, something theyll all enjoy!

OMG.

Just collected boys from CM. They each have an enormous bag of presents - one each from every mindee.

OMG, I'm shocked - that's NEVER happened with me. How odd!
