Afterschool

I’m very confused about the cost of afterschool care. I’ve compared the annual cost of afterschool care to the annual cost of a private school plus midterm/summer camps and there isn’t much difference in cost. What am I missing!? I live in South Dublin and have no one I can ask because I’m the first of my family and friends to have children at this stage. Anyone else that I know in a similar situation either lives outside of Dublin or has family help. My husband and I work full time and need childcare for 12 months of the year (less a week here or there for annual leave etc.). I am so confused and there seems to be no discussion anywhere about it - not on the news, radio, social media. I can’t get any information anywhere. Can someone please help!

Not sure what it's like where you are but here outer London afterschool is £6 to £10, before £5 to £8 with a childminder. Most after school clubs have closed.

Similar price in midlands. Our clubs are open and in place as normal

We have an after school club run by a third party who picks the kids up from school and they have /activities until 6pm (£12 per session). The school run after school clubs are currently just once a week and finish at 4 or 4.30 (but are free or nominal fee). holiday camps here range from £20 to £40 ish per day-, cheaper ones often 9-3 only. there wasn't as much choice as usual this year presumably effects of covid still. Childminders are often cited as a cheaper option but there isn't one locally dropping at our school.

Yikes. Before school club here is £2 and after school club is £4. I'm in the north east though

Yes its different I guess you don't pay £550k for a bog standard 3 bed in a shit area or £1100 rent for a studio flat though. Childminders would only have 3 school children under 8 not the 40 plus of s school club so to get minimum wage need to charge higher for the few they have

Ours is £6 til 4.30 for an activity; or £12 til
6pm where they mainly play and have a snack
