Social Services

Is there anyone that can tell me about their experience with social services? At what stage do you think is the right time to contact them and what should I expect?

A bit of a background, the ex-husband has alcohol problems. It seems like he is down in another spiral lately. Got arrested for drunk driving, lost his licence for 9 months, started showing up with a hangover more than enough times to raise concerns. Every time I warn him or raise my concerns, he calls me a liar, that everything I say are accusations and me trying to frame him etc. My mother instinct now says an intervention of a third-party is crucial for the safety of my child but I don't know where to start..

Firstly I'm sorry that this is happening for your family as it's not easy. I'm a qualified social worker in child protection. As the mother with valid concerns you have the rights to refuse contact or place expectations and safeguards in place ie another family member to supervise.

If the father isn't happy he can take the matter to court, an independent social worker/family court advisor will assess and recommend what is best for the children.

Good luck
