Nannies

Hi all,

I am really really struggling to find work. I have had lots of interest but more often than not families don’t realise what a nanny is/does so ends up not being suitable as they actually need a childminder or nursery for their needs.
Or the days I have available don’t suit.

I have had really positive feedback so it’s circumstances rather than me.
Also have excellent references and lots of experience so no issues that way.

Has anyone else found this recently? I am in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Anyway that aside any tips on how else I can get myself out there?

I have done lots of Facebook advertising and have my details on a couple of childcare website.

With lockdown my presence in the area is definitely not well known anymore. No toddlers, library, swimming etc

I think the 30 free hours has had an impact as well unfortunately.

I already have a nanny job on a Tuesday and I am finding it hard to find parents who want 2 or 3 days per week.

Are nannies popular in your area? Does not surprise me that many parents do not know exactly what sort of childcare they are looking for, they may consider various types, nannies usually being the most costly form of childcare if there are only one or two children.

The job market is absolutely terrible at the moment for nannies. I'm in London and I've never known it this bad.

Word of mouth is often a good way to find work. Ask the parents you know from previous jobs to put the word out. Lots of schools have newsletters or parents WhatsApp groups etc. ask them to put an ad up for you. If there are playgroups locally with noticeboards ask them if you can put an ad up too.

Use childcare.co.uk and nannyjob.co.uk to look for work.

I’m not surprised families don’t know the difference between the various childcare options. It would just be nice if they done a little research or actually asked

None of our playgroups are back up and running yet. It’s really frustrating.

My previous families are spreading the word. Unfortunately they don’t know many people with younger children anymore so it’s proving difficult.

I check the websites twice a day but find most people want after school care or a childminder.

Looks like I will just need to keep trying and hopefully I will be lucky soon.
Glad to hear it’s not just me finding it difficult at the moment

If the market is looking better for child minding, could you consider that as an alternative? Probably better hours than Nannying!

runningpink · 05/08/2021 19:25

Childminding isn’t for me. I would hate all the box ticking/paperwork stuff

Also I don’t have space at home for this to be viable and really wouldn’t want my house filled with toys, stair gates etc

I will keep looking and hopefully I will find something suitable

Are you with any agencies ?

It is slower in some areas

Equally lots of job around me in south east

The well known childcare co.U.K. May have some jobs

What do uou need 2/3/4/5 days ?

Do you have any connections to a local hospital and could advertise on the doctors notice board? Doctors can potentially afford a nanny and want unusual hours that don't fit nursery.

Hi I am looking for a temporary nanny but I am willing to make it a permanent position for the right person. Im in North London. Please message me if you can work near that area

Honestly, I think many people who want and can afford a nanny might opt for an au pair instead.
They really get their money’s worth out of those poor buggers.

I found our (wonderful) nanny through childcare.uk

  • at least there people are actively searching for “nanny” so you get more realistic options?
