we are getting a babysitter in on sunday night.

do we need to provide her with dinner?

you don['t need to give her dinner, but I alwasy leave out some snacks (crisps, choc, soft drinks etc etc) We add cab omney if one of ius cant take her home . also leave laptop out if she wants to surf

re dinner it depends what time she starts babysitting, I usually I make sure we get some nice biscuits and soft drinks, if they start earlier then I leave some more substantial food

re cab home, if they have their own car then obviously no, if you are not able to drive them home then yes to providing them with a cab

Hope that helps

have a good nigh out on sunday

frannikin · 21/11/2007 21:15

If it starts before 6 I do expect to be fed - after then I can feed myself beforehand!

Alternatively if you're unsure leave out a pizza menu and a tenner. If she's not hungry she won't order!

I've never yet babysat where parents havent said 'take what you want from the fridge!' and I never have. wonder how much free food I've missed out on...

nannyL · 21/11/2007 21:46

my dads collegue said to his babysitter help yourself to whatver you like...

so (on sat pm) she roasted the whole meat joint in their fridge for sunday lunch

I generally only babysit for people whom i used to nanny for and i know their kitchens inside and out... i know i can help myself to anything and if that means cooking myself a bowl of pasta or toast or ice lolly or crisps / cake etc i know im welcome to it.

If im 'feeding' the kids then (as happens when i nanny) i eat what the kids are having with the kids!

But as a rule unless babysitter starts really early i would generally point her in the direction of biscuit tin / crisp cupboard / kettle etc and not worry about feeding her a proper meal!

frannikin · 21/11/2007 21:49

I always feel really guilty if I eat anything - despite the fact I'm usually famished and in desperate need of sugar!

malfoy · 22/11/2007 00:01

thanks all. I will leave her the pizza menu & a tenner + some snacks/ soft drinks + money for cab fare.

Wow, can I babysit for you? None of my families ever leave me money for a pizza..and I drive myself home!
