She has applied for a job in a local preschool for the days when my ds does not go her house.

She asked if I could be a referee which I'm very happy to do but I'm rubbish at writing letters.

What are they expecting? she's fantastic and ds loves her to bits btw

Is she trustworthy, honest, puntual?

How long has she looked after your DS?

That's the sort of thing

They may send you a form to fill in

woodenchair · 20/11/2007 21:29

That's great thanks

I also thought they would phone me or ask me to fill in a form, but no they want a blardy letter.

I would write:

  • how long she's looked after your ds/how old he is
  • functional stuff ( as Katy said, punctuality, reliabilty, sicknes record, paperwork or something if appropriate)
  • more 'judgement' stuff - eg things you think she is particularly good at - eg for my c/m, I'd write somthing like 'X is particualry good with arts & crafts activities & has made very strong bonds with both of my children. My daughter struggled settling initially, and x showed real dedication, professionalism and a strong understanding of child psychology in helping her to adjust"

You are much better at this than I am

I wrote refs for a number of employees in my previous job, katymac - practice and all that!

Katymac · 20/11/2007 21:47

You any good at job descriptions?

Sorry for the hijack........

woodenchair · 20/11/2007 22:08

the mum(a friend of mine) wrote a reference when her dd left to go to school farther away..although prob not appropriate for school, for me beingg a cm it was great as it was so 'normal' even saying 'She was "gutted" when she had to give notice'..something quite informal but make sure you cover all the points you would guess they would ask ie: good with children, punctual, caring, efficient, flexable etc etc
