Child care tax free account

Hi everyone.

Been meaning to set up payments in to this account for ages but when I came to do it today, I got very confused.

I'm with Lloyds and when I go to set up a standing order, it's asks for payee name. What is the payee name for this account? Is it my child's name.? Also when I put the sort code in, it comes up as NS&I TFC customer receipts. Is that right? Sorely doesn't sound it.

The NS&I TFC is correct, thats what the payments that come to me are marked as

Payee name, unsure, possibly your name as the account with TFC is your account?

nannynick · 05/05/2021 06:35

Taken this from a guide I found:

To make deposits they’ll need:
• account sort code 60-89-71
• account number 10027165
• your unique childcare account number (as the payment reference).
It’s available in your welcome pack in your ‘secure messages’ folder.

The NS&I TFC is right - I just put my name as payee as I pay it!

nannynick · 05/05/2021 06:38

That doesn't answer the payer name question. I guess that the bank is checking that the payee matches the account, so NS&I TFC or some variation on that would make sense.

I couldnt find a correct name either op, my banking app thought it might be scam. I ended up sending £1 to test it & it was fine. Couldn't set up on the app though had to call the bank!

Did you use your name or your child's name?

Ive got it setup on my banking app as taxfree childcare, can't remember what name we put on the account itself. Really strange but I've had no isssues using it since!

PrincessTilly · 09/05/2021 15:16

I put HMRC Childcare plus child initials (i have 3)

JGR21 · 31/08/2021 16:43

I'm trying to pay some money into my daughter's Child Care account.
The discussion above is really helpful. Just one query now I've sorted name of account, sort code and account number. Where does the child's name figure in it? Is the 13 digit reference number needed somewhere?

I'm grandad by the way!
ellesbellesxxx · 21/02/2022 20:50

@Gwangwad the ref number is needed yes, in the “reference” box but the child’s name isn’t needed… odd though it may seem!

Gwangwad · 21/02/2022 23:18

Thanks for your help. I'll try a test run tomorrow before I put the real sum in.

Hi I got the same problem, is that account name correct?

thank you x

Hey, this came up on a Google search and I found the answer so thought I'd pop in and say in case anyone else Googles it and finds this page!

The answer is
GOV CHILDCARE

I managed to guess this! I know NatWest does quite a good account name check and we use them at work so I tested setting up a new payee on my work bank account (did not complete it if the boss finds this!)

I tried tweaking the name and it said "Close match" and offered "GOV CHILDCARE" then said it was a full match.

Now I just need to find my card reader to set it up on my account, I did have it in my home office drawer but my little boy kept opening it and emptying it so I moved everything not suitable for a 2 year old out. No idea where to though! Kids eh?

Hope that is useful info for someone. Sorry to raise an old thread but as this was the first thing that came up on Google thought it would be a good place to share the info. Why they can't include it is beyond me though... oh yeah, it's the government and they are hopeless at the best of times!

Account name is HMRC Childcare

ShalR · 17/09/2024 12:08

I spoke with HMRC today on 0300 123 4097
The beneficiary name they told me was
TAXFREE CHILDCARE
You need to set up the payment as paying to a business account.
My banking app confirmed a match with this beneficiary name.

khaa2091 · 17/09/2024 15:10

Mine is “Tax Free Childcare”. Ask whoever controls the account to forward the email describing how to pay in..

Ljilea · 29/09/2024 10:22

Just set mine up today - it’s NS&I TFC
