School nursery or childminder?

Hi everyone,

My son is currently 2 and half and goes to a childminder and has been there since he was 11 months old. He loves going there however he will also be eligible to attend a school nursery from September next year.

I am really struggling with how to decide what the best setting is for him, i love the fact its a home from home setting however I do believe he would also love a more formal setting and more of a structure. he's a very socialable child and quite advanced for his age also.

I was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and what their views on this are.

I would go for the school nursery. I haven't used a child minder but did do a lot of activities with mine at home but he just gets so much more out of the school nursery. The school dinners, forest school, outside play areas, music the list goes on. Its also been wonderful for socialisation.

Think about school holidays.
Is it a full day in nursery? Our local school nurseries are morning or afternoon so the child goes to a childminder for the rest of the day.

You could use both if your childminder is willing to do nursery runs. As another poster states will you need childcare in the holidays?
