I knew it was Shoshable that opened due to the subject heading - keyboard playing up again?!

I've not got the 2 sisters today and tomorrow but I'm having the adhoc mindee from 9.30am. I decided that as my ds was looking forward to her coming, I'd forget about how annoyed I was with her mum!

Enjoy the peace and quiet this morning Shoshable!

Shoshable · 10/09/2007 07:54

its driving me mad, trouble is 92% of the time its fine, dont no why it does it. I can tap a key really hard a dozen times and the letter dosnt appear on the screen !!!!!!!!!!!!

Very strange!

mumlove · 10/09/2007 08:00

Morning all, I have had a fabulous holiday and come home to find that my 1st full day with mindees isn't until wednesday, I only have to collect 1 from preschool today and have tomorrow off. I now need to clear the suitcases from the lounge as we only got back yesterday at 4.30pm.

Will have a look through later to see what I have missed, but 3 weeks is a long time to catch up on !!!

MaureenMLove · 10/09/2007 08:11

Morning all. Glad you had a good holiday mumlove, welcome back.
I think its time for a new keyboard Shosh! Mind you, it just shows how awake I am, I didn't even notice the lack of letters in the title, until LT mentioned it!

I've got poorly baby and 2 year old this morning. Should be fun. At least I've only got to run after one of them! She doesn't fit in the double buggy though, so 2 year old will have to walk to school this morning. We'll have to leave a bit early to make sure we make it on time. I'll probably end up carrying him most of the way - good job its only about 5 minute walk!

looneytune · 10/09/2007 08:16

Hi mumlove, glad you had a lovely holiday! Bet you're glad to be gently eased back into work!

Can I ask some advice........can't do another thread as the friend is a MNetter.

I mentioned a while back that I was filling my spaces for Jan when ds starts school. Well, the last one to sort out is my friend who wanted 2 spaces. She's been going through a lot with work and is signed off atm and on AD's. I've given lots and lots of time for her to decide if she definitely wants the space, lots of gentle chasing and last night I emailed her saying I need a decision and can't give any more time (it's been a couple of months I've been hanging). She's emailed back saying she does want the space but if it's causing problems then she understands if I give it to someone else. So, I've emailed another lady who really wanted 3 days but I could only offer 2. Would you have done the same? This person admitted she probably won't go back to this company after Christmas and she's not sure about taking a course etc. So I feel safer asking the other lady. What do you think?

My friend is now asking me the ins and outs of me doing the school run for her dd. Her dd has a space (from Easter) at the school my ds goes to but she's moved a bit further away and has also put her dd down at one of her local schools. So, she can't possibly at this stage know for sure which school her dd will end up at. If she got confirmation that it would be the school run I do, then yes, I can offer a space from Easter but really I should charge a retainer shouldn't I?? I have space now, just that her dd isn't old enough to come to me until Easter as I'm full with under 5's.

Oh god.....just tell me I'm right to be getting a bit tougher????

Thanks

Shoshable · 10/09/2007 08:16

My God Mo how big is he!!!

Mind I have a 24lb 8 month old who is two inches taller than the 18 month old!

Morning!!

I've got a sore throat today, but children are all being really well behaved so that's really good, definately think i am getting somewhere with mindee, he hasn't throw or spat food out for over a week now, he will sometimes refuse food or tip the plate but at least we're getting there and instead of messing with the food when he's finished 9 time out of 10 he is saying finished and bin!

He hasn't bitten anyone for over 2 weeks infact it's been a while since he's hurt any of the other children (when he wasn't getting his nap it was daily (infact many time a day) He will now go down for his nap without so much as a murmur.

On thursday last week at toddler group one of the other cm's told him he had been so good and i must be so proud of him etc.

Dd2 and mindee are getting on so much better, they are friends now, they hug each other now and she asks for him its so cute!

We're going to a new toddler group today

Shoshable · 10/09/2007 08:19

Yes def right, you have given her lots of time, and it does sound like she understands, when it comes down to it, you need to fill your business (I make a point of NOT taking friends children now after lots of probs)and if you can fill your spaces better with the other lady do it. As fopr easter its a long way away and anything could come up.

mindee due at 9.30am, at 9.15am I pulled into a road near my house (on way back from school run) and mindee & parents in car pulled me over. They said 'we forgot you had the school run' and I said 'yes, well the sheet said 9.30am' and I THOUGHT they said they'll turn round and follow me. They are not here??!?!?!! Maybe they went for petrol as there's a petrol station right by us? Oh well......glad I made my point, I bloody knew they'd be early!!1 . Was going to wash my hair when I got back (would have had time) but now I don't know if they are coming in a min or at 9.30!!! grrrrrrrr

tigersmum · 10/09/2007 09:20

Can anyone tell me where I can get some art straws from. I did my planning last week to include making a hedgehog which included using art straws, but can I get them? I have been to hobbycraft and they dont do them. So any suggestions. And, would you believe our local library didnt have 1 book on hedgehogs, so may now have to revise plans. Bugger.

looneytune · 10/09/2007 09:22

Shoshable - thanks, I've already had a reply to the email I sent other parent this morning. She's going to let me know by Wednesday and is very grateful for me offering it to her. As for the school run, Easter is so far away I just don't know what to do. I don't want to say I'll reserve it and not charge and then turn work away.

Oh.....I'll come back, mindee pulled up

looneytune · 10/09/2007 09:29

Oh......parents......I said 'thought you were behind' and they said 'we thought we'd give you 5 mins' - so came at 9.20 instead of 9.15 Oh well!

How about pipe cleaners instead of straws???

MaureenMLove · 10/09/2007 09:30

Wilkinsons do art straws I think. Try there.

I love my job you know. I know I whine on about the paperwork and Ofsted, but I don't half love my littlies! Poorly baby is waving her arms and feet around so much she's gonna fall off her bean bag. If she wasn't wearing a nappy already, she'd wet herself laughing! And as for mindee2, he's just 2, and he is hysterical! He has just had me sitting on the front door step waving to dh as he goes to work. All my mindees call dh Eeyore, but this one can't say Eeyore, so he calls him Innor. He was just shouting bye, Innor, say bye Innor Mo, say it,! Its adorable to hear. I love 'em!

tigersmum · 10/09/2007 09:37

Thanks,

looneytune · 10/09/2007 10:22

Ok, back to my question about the school run child (I was going to ask CM Club but problem is, I'm talking about ttc and don't want to be launched at! )........

Atm we are trying for a baby. My friend knows this so it's not a problem form that point of view, it's whether or not I'll actually have a space thinking about it!

Here are my thoughts...

If we do have another baby sometime next year (earliest would be May even if I was lucky enough to be pregnant now), I'd need to apply to OFSTED for 4 under 5's. If they say no, I WILL have 1 school age space, If they grant the variation, I won't have the space. I'm wondering therefore if I should just act as if I have no spaces??? Rather than get an enquiry, take someone on and then possibly have to give notice next year??

Oh decisions....decisions!!!

I know some people probably think I shouldn't have filled my January vacancies but just because I'm trying for a baby now, doesn't mean it's going to happen straight away. Could take a year and then I'd be pissed off if I hadn't filled my vacancies.

Oh, this is all giving me a headache. Sorry again for bringing it into the staffroom but I just don't want parents jumping on me thinking I'm wrong to fill vacancies. I'm not planning on closing for very long if and when I'd have the baby, it's whether or not Ofsted would agree to the variation that's the problem. I've had 4 under 5's granted a few times before but nothing guarantees they agree to this, especially with a newborn

[stressed]

looneytune · 10/09/2007 12:28

What an easy day so far. Just me and mindee (4.7) this morning for couple of hours then went to pick ds up from nursery along with a friend of his Poor ds never gets to have playdates due to my numbers so I asked his friend's mum this morning and she agreed he could come after nursery for a few hours. It's great as mindee used to go to their nursery (moved to private school now moving house) so they are all the same age and all get on

I think I'll go and make a cuppa whilst I wait for them to calm down and decide they want food!!!

Hope physio was ok Shoshable.

Everyone else having a good day?

Rubybees · 10/09/2007 13:44

Hello had a lovely morning my dd in pre-school and 2 yr old in creche so at home with 1 yr old I made a tresure basket for her which she sat and played with lovely (great observation to do ). I also had a new lady come round as I'm starting to have her baby 17th October.

I got tough and handed in my notice to the 1, 2yr (sisters) as parents were a nightmare I put up with it for so long then had enough but on the plus side I keep a 'waiting list' so filled the spaces straight away (go me hehe) so these go then 2 1/2 yr old starting 3 days a week and full time baby.

Really looking forward to it the baby is soo contented and mum has givin me permission for everything, swimming, baby signing, etc. (unlike the other who would just about let me have permission for toddler group grrr)

fifilou · 10/09/2007 14:54

hello!

fifilou · 10/09/2007 14:54

(Fi sneaks in..............creeps over to the biscuit tin, opens it.steals 4 biscuits...... runs out............)

looneytune · 10/09/2007 15:25

Would you believe that as soon as I said I was off to make a cuppa.......the f**king power went! I've just got one now. Still easy, playdate gone home and now have the 3 year old after pre-schooler. We're just off to the park but I wanted to come and SMACK FIFILOU'S BOTTOM!!!! How very dare you!!!

WTF is going on with all the theft here recently??!!! We used to have cleaners in the office who took bites of people's sandwiches etc and then put the rest back in the fridge

[Looney stomps off in digust and wonders if she really wants to be associated with such disturbing people!!!]

mumlove · 10/09/2007 15:51

OK just picked up DD from school and mindee finishes in 45 mins, I am so tired so off to bed early after tea.
I have managed to tidy most of the suitcases and their contents away apart from the last remaining 1, also 2 piles of washing done and put away and all of this with the phone going (2 temporary mindees starting next week), all before I had to collect mindee from preschool.
Tomorrow will start again!!

Off for a coffee and biccy.

ju · 10/09/2007 16:06

At least fifilou didn't widdle in the pot plant like MamaG! LOL . Easy week chez ju, unexpectedly no mindees tee hee. So am MN like mad

Shoshable · 10/09/2007 16:06

.........Lights calming incense burners for LT................... Don't worry dear, I've put a mouse trap in the biscuit tin

Well I had acupuncture at the physio thismorning, have a lot of localised pain, but the pain right across my back seems to be better, have to have some more on Thursday morning.

Ruby I dont ask the parents if I can take children, I just say that is part of our week, if they dont want them to go swimming they have to look else where. (they do sign permission forms tho)

OP posts:
looneytune · 10/09/2007 17:00

Thanks Shoshable, feel much more calm now (but most importantly.....I LOVE the mouse trap idea )

Well, adhoc mindee just got picked up (luckily we had just got back from the park...dad rushing dd as needed to get to the post office.....good job we were in early then!!!).

Sorry but I'm really shocked at this......mindee is with me today and then tomorrow is the last day. Just been told they are moving tomorrow to a hotel in the new area (some way from here) and mindee starts school the next morning. I was really surprised, she's going to be so tired and just thrown into the new school straight from all the upheaval. Oh.....I really shouldn't be having a go, I know, it's just that she gets so tired and can be really shy and I just think one day in the new area would be good for her before being thrown into a brand new school. She's 4.7 and started with me at 2.5 and I really feel they don't know her at all sometimes

Anyway, enough moaning, ds and other mindee have decided they want the sofa turning into a bed so off to the playroom to sort that for them (I'll have to make sure there's no funny business )
