Au pairs live in your home and don't do full time care for young children.
Nannies look after young children and are either live-in or live out. However, you employ nannies, therefore you're their employer and must sort out NI, pensions and tax.
For 1 child, it's often easier and cheaper to use a nursery or a childminder.
