Need some advice re settling in a 13 month old, she only started this week, so obviously has been upset when being dropped off and also cries off and on throughout the 3 hours she is here. She is absolutely fine if out in the pushchair or car, but at the house is very difficult to distract from her misery. The main problem that I have is that she will not let me comfort her, if I pick her up to carry her anywhere ie to play with the windchimes or look at the dog etc she literally pushes me away. She also hates me changing her nappy or wiping her nose (which I have to do frequently) So I have ended up giving her some space, sitting nearby and engaging her in play, which does work (sometimes) Don't get me wrong she doesn't cry for the whole 3 hours, she will play with the other children for a while (maybe 20 mins) then she will remember that her mums not there and cry again I am finding it quite disheartening as the other children I mind settled in very quickly and are really happy with me (I think!!) Any tips from you experienced minders out there would be really welcome as I really hate to see her so upset

Hi tb. I have just gone through exactly the same thing though mine was because the mum really didnt want her to come so i think she fed off the negative vibes! I used to give lots of space and play engaging games with other mindees leaving a space for her to join in. Hopefully it will get better soon, unfortunately my mindee stopped coming after 2 3 hour sessions cos the mum said she wasn't ready to leave her yet. Such a shame cos she was startying to make progress.
Ps my mindee was also about 13 months
