I may be having an operation soon and will need child care for my 18 mo for approx 6 wks afterwards. what are my options (don't have any family or friends who could have dd all day while dh at work) would i be able to use a nursery on a short terms basis?

You could try advertising on Gumtree, I keep seeing short-term jobs for reasons like this.

A childminder maybe? I do lots of short term cover!

I am a childminder and would take a child on for a short time. all you can do is ask in your area. Not everyone will, and not many will probably be as flexible as you want, but I'm sure someone will be able to help.
What area are you in?
