overwhelmed with applications

we are looking for a summer au pair to help with childcare over the holidays.

I had 2 au pairs last year to help out when I had a new baby. both experiences were great and we've kept in touch with the girls. this time I put up my profile on au pair world late on Thursday night as as of this morning I've had over 60 applications. it's unreal. we live in a rural location in Scotland so don't expect a great deal of interest. the previous times we've been looking we had a few applications and we applied to a few. skyped 3 or 4 girls and then offered the place and they took it. this time it's like a full time job! 🙈

no real point to this post other than to vent.
anyone else in the same boat?

on checking it's actually nearer 70. I feel like I could start up an agency!

When I looked for a summer au pair last year I had this too. Working only for the summer is very popular for au pairs :)

I once put a profile up on Au Pair World and had to take it down 23 hours later after I'd had 137 applications, that must have been four or five years ago.

It’s from applicants wanting to work over summer.

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar that's madness!
I thought having so many applications would be great and we'd get someone experienced but it's really hard keeping track. then you think you're getting somewhere and they go cold or the dates don't match up. I've stopped replying to most of them as it was just bumping me up the search and I kept getting more and more!

@roses2 I can see why. at least I'll know what to expect for next year....assuming it's still an option with brexit

It's amusing now looking back at it Mixedupmummy, but at the time I was trying to read applications and reply to them and they were applying faster than I could read them. So for every two applications that I read and cleared off my list there were three new ones, until it occurred to me to take down my profile. I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes. Grin
