What do people do in school holidays?

My wife and I have just moved here from Indonesia (where everyone has a maid!) I am trying to find full-time work and my wife will be looking for part-time. I guess there’s after school clubs, but what do people do in holidays/half-term ? I’m very naive; I’ve never dealt with a kid in the UK. My daughter is 7. Help!!

I’m a childminder and I have school children in The holidays. I only tend to say yes I will have them if I have them before and after school or I had them when they were little though, although I know other childminders take on new children just for holiday cover.
Other options - round here there are a couple of private companies that offer quite cheap childcare, although some of these can be not great (depends what you are after though I guess- £10 a day isn’t going to get you one to one care, with a qualified person and lots of lovely, varied activities).

Our council offer clubs at the sports centre and these are popular, but if your child isn’t sporty I know some can struggle having to play games all day.
My daughters dance club do holiday clubs, which include arts and craft and a bit of acting/drama activities.
The problem with a lot of these is the times, I know some parents have been caught out as they only run 9-3 which doesn’t help the majority of working parents.
Our before and after school club, run by a nursery are open 7.30-6 and has lots of children in it, I guess because there are a lack of options for full days.
It really depends what is available in your area though. We get adverts from school about holidays clubs and they all advertise on Facebook. Ask around at school too, see what dc friends do -these things are often more fun if you go with your mates.
