Hi, im going back to full time work in the civil service and HR are saying that they offer childcare vouchers. I thought they weren't on offer anymore to new entrants? Would i be able to opt out and go for tax free childcare instead? Thanks

Going back - were you already working in civil service and getting vouchers, then had a break? Maybe HR have worked out a way to not have you be a new starter.

Though more likely HR are wrong, childcare vouchers is closed to new entrants. So TFC is your only option subject to eligibility.

TFC does not involve the employer, so is not done via their payroll, so no HR involvement.

No im brand new to civil service. I last used childcare vouchers 10 yrs ago in another organisation. Im sure the HR person has got the wrong info.

I’ve recently been through this as a new starter in the CS. The government have extended the vouchers scheme so it’s stopping this year sometime (was meant to stop last April iirc).

Are you sure they extended vouchers? Everything I've read says it's closed to new applicants. I'm not CS but NHS.

Voucher scheme was extended until 4th October 2018. So they have now closed to new entrants.
