Babysitting

Hi All, my 18 year old son is about to come back from being in India for three months where he volunteered at a school with children aged 4-13 for 8 weeks and is in his last few weeks of travelling now.

We are in The Tonsley's, is anyone looking for a babysitter/manny over the Christmas holidays (he might be able to babysit on New Year's Eve). He is free to help from Monday 10 December.

I’m looking for a reliable local baby sitter for my 10 year old daughter on an odd weekend eve or week day for a couple of hours not sure how to go about it safely and reasonable rates are?

Please advise I am in Chigwell/Hainault anyone experienced please get in torch

In the absence of any personal recommendations, you’re probably safest to contact your county/local authority children’s services department or try childcare.co.uk.

LAs keep a database of local registered childcare providers who have been checked for suitability. Note there is no such thing as a registered babysitter, but some nannies and childminders will do babysitting as an additional service.

Childcare.co.uk lists babysitters. These are probably more likely to be genuine if they’ve paid to subscribe to the full site membership. They can also upload documents to demonstrate their suitability.

It is vital to check a babysitter is a safe and suitable person, and you simply cannot do that on an open message board like this. You may have noticed the guidance message at the top of this page, warning against advertising on this board. TBH I wouldn’t leave my child in the care of someone who can’t even pay attention to (or chooses to ignore) such a straightforward instruction.
