Childcare whilst studying

Hi all,

I am looking at going back to university once I have given birth but obviously worried about money.

I know you can get vouchers for childcare in some boroughs but does that cover the evenings?

Ideally I need to be able to have my baby looked after whilst I do coursework. Do you know of any services that can do this? Any charities? Or other options?

I live in London!

It will just need to be an ofsted registered provider. I don’t think there are any childcare charities...

Sorry do you mean extra childcare to do homework? No. I thought you meant to cover an evening class.

There is a childcare grant for students, subject to eligibility.

Not sure that would work in your situation but may be worth looking at.

Evenings - are you going somewhere in the evenings? Finding childcare in the evening is even more tricky than daytime.

Are you a lone parent? If not then could your partner be on baby duty through the evening for most things (breast feeding may be a little tricky for them).

Most people have to wait until the children are in bed and then do coursework I'm afraid. The grants generally only cover time in class plus travelling but you will need to talk to student services at college.
