How do I deal with au pair no. 3?

She arrived mid July so has been with us 7-8wks. It has been a funny period because the kids finished nursery in mid August and they only started school yesterday. They will be part time until Oct due to the school settling in policy.

We have been on holiday for a week but other than that she has taken care of them whilst we have been at work. She is also covering afternoons whilst the kids are part time at school. She has been paid an hourly rate for all the extra hours she has done. Normally she will just have to do school drop off and pick up four days a week and maybe a few hours on Sunday (pre arranged well in advance if DH is working).

She is good with the kids but we are also noticing that, after nearly 8wks, she would be more comfortable in her role and her list of duties. Classic au pair stuff such as tidying up the kids stuff - with their help! - clearing away meals she has made for kids, know how to put their clothes away, keep to the routine we have given her. I come back home four days a week at 6:30pm to find the place a tip with toys everywhere, plates with smeared ketchup in the living room and the kids not in the bath yet.

She has struggled with time keeping with the kids routine but we thought that it’s because she has had to do some full days and the routine is different to what kids are used to.

She is also buying them lots of sweets and chocs and treats which we would never do.

She is 22 and should know better but I think she is very sheltered and clueless about real life.

What do you think?
