Childminder car seat

Green2016 · 04/07/2018 13:07

Am i being unreasonable? I was asked to provide a car seat for my LO who goes 2 days a week. Which I am fine with. i needed to borrow it one weekend and I found out they had been using it for other children for the rest of the week and by me using it on days my LO wasn't with them they had to buy one. Surely if i have to provide a car seat then all parents have to? Not sure how happy I would be if my LO was using another childs seat without me knowing where its come from. I understand it would be hassle changing car seats every few days but what do others do?
thanks in advance

Your childminder is a cf. Either all parents provide them or they purchase their own.

They shouldn’t be doing that. I would speak to them and insist on having it back when it's not being used. Wouldn’t want the germs from other children and more chance of it breaking

What is a cf?

Hereshopingforimprovement · 04/07/2018 13:22

Cheeky fucker

I wouldn't be happy with that and I'm a childminder! That's not on, they should be supplying seats in that case!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 04/07/2018 13:28

How odd? I’ve always bought my own and don’t expect parents to provide. They might not fit my car properly.

lizzybusy · 04/07/2018 13:28

I think that's wrong. I would only lend it for the days that your child is with them. I would say that I needed it. I'm friends with two child minders and they buy their own car seats.

When my child was still in infant carrier I left it with childminder as meant I could drop off and my dh could pick up. Since then childminder has provided. I think is usual

I’m a cm and know childminders (like me) who provide car seats and other cms who ask parents to provide. When parents provide, they may take them home each day with them or they might buy a spare and leave it at the minders house. If the minder then has lots of part time children she could end up with lots of seats and storage becomes an issue. BUT she needs to think about this issue before she says parents need to provide seats.

Each child should be in the seat provided by their parents or it isn’t fair. Either the fee includes a car seat or it doesn’t, one family shouldn’t be subsidising another.

I get parents to bring their baby seats, which are only used for their child and go home with them each might. As soon as they're in a fixed seat I provide them.

Thanks all for your comments. Now to think about how to approach it! Hmm
