Giving notice help...

My DS is almost 3 and starting nursery in September. He has been with his childminder since he was about 12 months old. I now want to change him to a different childminder who covers the school he’ll eventually go to so he’s settled before starting at ‘big school’.. the new childminder also covers the school DSD attends and has agreed to help should I ever become stuck for childcare for her too.

I need to hand notice in soon but don’t know how to go about it. Childminder is lovely (been a few little bit niggles but other than that, she’s beem fantastic). What do I say? I know it should be as simple as what I’ve put above but I don’t know how to go about it without my notice period being awkward Sad

I'm sure she'll understand if it's because she doesn't offer school runs to your child's new school. What have been the niggles?

Why would anything be awkward? You are moving on because she can't accommodate your DC's needs when they change. That's totally normal.

It's fine she'll understand. Give her a lovely reference letter if you've been mostly happy with the care she's provided.

we all understand that children will move on especially if we don't do their school just tell her your sad to hand in notice but need to move lo ready for school.

No need for awkwardness your needs have changed however do hurry up and do it now as there's nothing worse than getting September notice the day before term ends as 90% of people will have sorted childcare by then and she may struggle to fill the space.
