I'm one who has a boring office job - have just finished my lunch which was also boring (soup from the machine as I forgot my sandwiches )
I am actually so bored I am close to tears - cant wait til I am registered and got little rugrats to look after

soak goes to find a wall to bang her head against

looneytune · 16/05/2007 13:09

I'm here Just had some much needed cheese on toast after having nothing all morning and not much yesterday (toast in morning then all i had was crisps and choc bar last night in bed )

I've spent the morning getting advice/working out what to do about this possible 'Neglect' case - my support minder said I have a duty to do something and can't ignore it (not that I wanted to, I was just unsure what I could do as some of the info is via au pair) so getting everything written down now.

Right, time to chop more fruit up for dessert!

looneytune · 16/05/2007 13:11

dmo - how on earth do you get them to finish lunch and be asleep by now?!??!!!

I'm doing a thread about this as since my new mindee started the other week, it's all such a rush and toddler mindee isn't getting long enough sleep

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 13:12

Grass is always greener soak! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my job and I can't think of anything else I'd rather do, BUT sometimes - I'd love a boring lunch! (Apart from today, coz I'm off anyway!)

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 13:14

LT, I always find the first few weeks of a new mindee is a struggle, but like someone said earlier, it all falls into place soon enough and the kids just accept that this is the routine at yours.

PinkChick · 16/05/2007 13:17

right old prediciment this morn..have yesterday and today as days off as full timer on shifts and twon part timers in tomorrow and firday.
parttimer 2's mum texts at 7.30 asking if i could poss have her ds for few hours this morn as there is a family crisis, i said yes, as although dp had taken day off to so we could do something, we still had to wait for dd to finish nursery so was going to get extra money ..which is good..yes?..no, when i thought about it, mum pays for 12 hrs each week, sometimes she uses 9 sometimes up to 24, so we went with middle amount to retain place for him.when i looked at it, he is with me tomorrow for 9 hours, meaning that the £16 i thought i would get for todays last minute care was now reduced to 1hr @£4..i had already told mum£16 and she said ok, but when i clicked, my concience got the better of me, when she came for him she was really really appreciative and kept saying thankyou, then i realisedshe had made it back early, so ahd ony been gone 3hrs, meaning i got no extra for having him this morn

looneytune · 16/05/2007 13:18

ML - I know what you mean but this is the first time for a VERY long time that I've done an afternoon school run and when I did do it before, my ds and mindee were both 2 and half so bit easier.

I'll still do my thread for advice but in short, my problem is we don't get back from nursery til 12, then have to make lunch, wash hands and get them to eat (nearly 2 year old is slower of course), do nappies, nap and then up and in car (all 3 under 5's) by 2.25pm! I'm rushing to do earlier lunches and try and hurry her up (still eating now) then she tends to sing for about 20 mins before going to sleep. She really needs at least a whole hours nap and I'm struggling at the mo (doesn't help I don't feel great so hopefully it will be better next week)

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 13:20

Oh dear PC, time for another clause in the contract about emergency childcare.

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 13:25

Gosh, that is a bit of a rush! How about making lunches before you go to nursery to collect. That way you can wash hands, shove lunch in front of them. Either that or smaller lunches and a piece of fruit on the go.

mumlove · 16/05/2007 13:29

soak said (cant wait til I am registered and got little rugrats to look after)

soak are you comming to look after me then?
That's my advertising name.

soak · 16/05/2007 13:31

MML - I wouldn't mind if my job was only occassionally boring but its all day every day (has been like this since after the new year) - what makes it worse is I hate being bored!
its a waste of 9 hours of my life a day!

soak · 16/05/2007 13:32

ML - I love that name!!! I also love the cartoon!

LoveMyGirls · 16/05/2007 13:45

dont you hate when you have got them all fed and off to sleep have tidied and just about to have your lunch then a parent comes to collect a sleeping child who screams and wakes the others? Then as you finally settle them and make you lunch you sit down and a bloody cold caller rings!!!!!!

Shoshable · 16/05/2007 13:54

Ok who is going to congratulate me, myself and the two mindees have sorted out EVERY toy mox in the playroom all the art cupboeard and amm the book cases, thrown out 4 bags of junk, picked all the playdo out of the carpet, washed all the play food, taken apart the brio table that you cant put chairs around fixed the cooker and taken down old posters and put up new. Well done hun!!!!!

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 14:06

Child labour - I love it! I once had a new mindee who eat her after school snack and left the rubbish on the table. I pointed out that we all do our bit to make sure things that belong in the bin, go in the bin. I then explained that various mindees had jobs and my dd & eldest mindee would be cleaning the toilet (I was only joking!) I said the 2 year old mindee would be sweeping the fire out and he started crying. When I asked him what was the matter, he said he wanted to clean the toilet!!!

Shoshable · 16/05/2007 14:27

I fully beelieve in child labour, dont you know I sit here all day just supervising the children cleaning

Oh, and 4 diaries to write - the baby one takes ages atm!

looneytune · 16/05/2007 15:22

OMG, what happened there - wrong thread LOl!

looneytune · 16/05/2007 15:47

Well done Shosh - might try that myself one day soon but errrrrrrrr what can I get my 5 month old to do???

I'm SO relieved to be let off the dinners tonight, means I can just casually do ds's without having to have them all sat at the table for a set time! - phew Although I do feel bad for au pair as the reason I've been let off is because she's got the girls +3 B&B's from 5pm til parents home tomorrow evening!

MaureenMLove · 16/05/2007 15:48

Thank god for that, I thought you mean you made the baby write a diary about his day!!

Anyway, back to me! Have you ever wished you hadn't got a day off and then you wouldn't have posted something that has caused a 'HUGE' row and someone to flounce? I think I might be part of a witch hunt. It wasn't on purpose, just wrong end of the stick and all that! I have offended WurlyWurly - big time. Not sure she will ever forgive me tbh.

crace · 16/05/2007 15:56

Oh dear - don't you hate that? I went and found it (what can I say, I am nosey) and I think there were some major over reactions?
