Thinking about getting an au pair

I'm thinking about getting an au pair to help out with the children while I'm doing my degree.

I have a 3yo and a 1yo. The 3yo is at pre-school all day every day, so it'd just be looking after the little one.

I'd be around sometimes, DH works from home, and nana is around the corner. SO the childcare is shared between all of us.

Is a 1yo too young for an au pair?
Has anyone had one?
Experiences?

TIA

They aren't meant to be looking after children under-3, but if DH is around, then she wouldn't exactly have solo care.
