Hi am am a mum and a student Im looking for mums to help me with my research, its a short questionnaire. its nothing personal. it is just regarding your thoughts on giving free lodgings in return for work (could be child care) thank you.

Scaliz - have a look into the legalities of it all.

Generally there isn't a option for someone to live in without being paid, either they are an employee and they have to be paid minimum wage minus the accommodation offset which is explained here
www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-accommodation or they are an au pair, in which case they have to live as part of the family and are paid pocket money.

If the law isn't adhered to, the "employee" could either sue for earning or there may be a potential criminal case under the modern slavery act 2015.
