Are au pairs hard to recruit at the moment?

Our au pair has suddenly announced he is leaving in four weeks. Feel he has been really deceitful about his motivations for the last few months but hey, that's another story!

I am looking into childcare options, including getting another au pairs. I just wondered whether anyone had recruited or tried to recruit an au pair recently and if so whether they knew what things were like in terms of whether there were plenty of applicants or not? Last time round it was extremely hard to find someone (because of Brexit, terrorism etc) and I wondered whether things were still like that now. TIA!

We found our new one in 2 weeks on au pair world (that was November time). Lots more applicants than in the Summer, so I don't think you'll struggle too much.

I found it harder than usual, but to be honest it's never the same, each year it's different. I'm starting to believe it just by luck if you have a good choice of lots of great girls, all with just the right things you are looking for!! good luck!

That's great news! I'm really dreading what Brexit is going to do for the au pair market especially if a visa is required as being an au pair isn't classified as being employed :(

I feel that I've been really lucky. Last time (in the summer) we had such difficulty. I had wondered the same thing. I'm putting my head in the sand/hoping Brexit won't actually happen...
