no - its the pre-reg session.

I think (please tell me if I'm wrong anyone!) its where I'll be with a group of other wannabe CM's and we discuss what its all about etc...

what actually happens at these meetings/sessions???

Sorry for delay pinkchick! I have been reading through previous threads to see if anyone else has been to one - Julezboo posted one back in mid march - from what I can gather its what I thought - the first steps for those who want to be childminders. you go to a meeting with others who wantt o be a CM and you get breifed on what to expect blah blah and get asked why you want to be a CM etc.

I would post the link for the thread but dont know how it was 14th March this year

I think you mean the ICP course? Introduction to Childcare practice or is the brief on what tells you need to do to become a childminder?

My ICP course was 1 day a week for three weeks...

yes, i did my icp course over 12 weeks from 6-9 in evenings, are you doing it through surestart/c.i.s???, they normally ask for majority of vote towards time/days so they can keep everyone happy?!

I had to go to 2! Mine were called briefing sessions.

My icp course was done in the evenings. I had 10 x 3hr sessions spread out over 6 weeks. Was a pain to get a babysitter for my ds but worth it coz our quality of life is so much better now I'm a cm!!

I hope you get a place on the May one, I'm sure there'll be someone that pulls out.

When I was looking into childminding in Wales they only ran the briefing session and icp every 3 months and I'd have had to wait ages to get on one.

well ive been told you can contact ofsted to carry out inspection prior BUT dont quote me, i may have got wrong end of stick(i did my icp first), but you can pay for you own crb checks to be done(all people over 16 in house)..these do take a while esp if youve moved recently and there one less thing to worry about..c.i.s should be able to give you forms for crb.

we have been told here that they will not do inspections till you have got to the ICP session that deals with all your paper work, some of the girls here have fought it and got there paper work at briefing sessions, dont think they will give them out before briefing tho.

Where I used to live in London you had to be registered before you could do the ICP and 1st aid. I was given forms to arrange ofsted visit at my 2nd briefing session. It still took 3 months though to get my certificate! I've only just got a place on a 1st aid course and I've been registered over a year!

Report

crace · 11/04/2007 19:51

We couldn't get the paperwork until we attended the briefing session, and even then we were "asked" not to fill in until we had completed the ICP course...

Report

Shoshable · 11/04/2007 19:56

seems as usual with all things surestart/ofsted it depends were you live and what your individual ICP provider decides!

lol!! I love the way the councils are so organised and all singing from the same hymn sheet!
